Legionella - Water Temperature Monitor
Legionella Water Temperature Monitoring Sensor
The Clear The Air Legionella (CTA-LEG) is an NB-IoT legionella temperature monitoring sensor that continuously monitors water temperatures and alerts facilities teams when conditions enter the high-risk range for bacterial growth. With two independent temperature probes, no WiFi required and up to 3 years battery life, it replaces manual water temperature checks with automated legionella monitoring and instant alerts.
Understanding Legionella Water Temperature
Legionella bacteria thrive between 20°C and 45°C. Below 20°C bacteria become dormant but survive. Above 60°C they are killed within minutes. The minimum water temperature to prevent legionella in hot water systems is 60°C at the calorifier and 50°C at the outlet within one minute. Cold water should be stored and distributed below 20°C. When temperatures drift outside these parameters the risk of Legionnaires disease increases significantly. The CTA-LEG monitors these critical thresholds continuously, replacing weekly manual checks with 24/7 automated alerting.
Who Uses It
Hospitals, care homes and GP surgeries have a legal duty under HSE L8 and HTM 04-01 to manage legionella risk, and rely on it for the continuous water temperature data and audit trail required for CQC inspections. Hotels with large water storage and distribution systems use it to monitor temperatures across multiple points simultaneously, replacing manual checks with automated reporting. Offices and commercial buildings with water storage systems, cooling towers or spa facilities use it to meet legionella monitoring requirements under COSHH Regulations. Local authorities and housing providers use it to replace paper-based legionella water temperature checks with automatic logging across social housing and public buildings. Schools, universities and student accommodation use it to automate routine water temperature checks and maintain the audit trail required for inspections.
What It Monitors
Water temperature via two independent probes from -40°C to +125°C with accuracy of ±0.3°C. Readings every 15 minutes, transmitted every 2 hours, with automatic alerts when temperatures enter user-defined risk thresholds.
Key Features
Two independent probes in one device cover hot water at the calorifier and cold water distribution simultaneously, where most legionella monitoring services require separate sensors for each. Every temperature reading is automatically logged with timestamp and location, providing the documentary evidence required for HSE L8 compliance, CQC inspections and insurance purposes without spreadsheets or manual records. No WiFi required and no IT involvement needed, making it ideal for plant rooms, tank rooms and basement installations. All devices are managed through the Clear The Air web platform and mobile app for iOS and Android, with custom threshold alerts, exportable compliance logs and API integration available for building management systems and FM platforms.
